There's No Such Thing
as a Free Call
Everyone is now more aware than ever of the headline offers available from the likes of BT. What you may not be aware of is how they “pay” for those calls elsewhere in the tariff.
Companies will employ three weapons to increase the charges on some calls in order to offset lower charges elsewhere. Call Duration Rounding – this is where the duration of the call is rounded up to the nearest 15, 30 or 60 seconds. Call Cost Rounding – this is where the cost of a call is rounded up to the next half or whole pence. Call Set Up Fees – this is where a fixed cost is applied to a call irrespective of the length of the call.
At Centrix, we do not employ any of these charging options as we believe that it is important for you to have a defined cost per minute for every call so that you can easily pass that cost on to your tenants, with margin added where appropriate. One final thought, we are seeing a move towards bundling minutes into packages. On the face of it these packages look appealing, however they do employ call rounding on both duration and cost. Additionally, the packages take away your flexibility, as about half of the call charge converts to a fixed monthly cost which takes no account of the actual spend from your tenants.
