Centrix will be Partying in the Park this summer
Capital Radio’s Party in the Park, in aid of The Prince’s Trust, is being held on Sunday July 8th 2001 and Centrix have been asked to provide a fully-working communications system for the event, held in London’s Hyde Park.
Last years event attracted nearly 100,000 people who, despite the rain, spent the best part of a day enjoying artists such as Ronan Keating, Kylie Minogue, Bon Jovi, The Corrs and Elton John. However, whilst the event only lasted a day, it took over two weeks to set up the site and ensure the safety of the public.
This year Centrix will be installing an Avaya Definity digital communications server with in excess of 120 extensions provided across the site. Steve Hogg, project engineer for Centrix, will be responsible for overseeing the installation and ensuring the smooth operation of the system on the day. "Having been involved with arranging this last year we feel confident we can deliver a reliable communications system on time. However, it always involves a considerable amount of work from many people to coordinate the installation. Some of the cable runs exceed 1/2km in Hyde Park, running parallel with Park Lane. Extensions are provided in all the production offices, artists’ dressing rooms, security gates, lost & found, merchandising and the hospitality areas. In addition, last year, two extensions were provided on the main stage for winners of a Capital Radio phone-in competition to ring their friends from the stage."
As well as providing communications for the Party in the Park concert the equipment will also be used for a Film Premiere before the main event and a Pavarotti concert a week after the event. Steve Hogg concludes by saying, "There’s no doubt it’ll be a tiring couple of weeks but everyone appreciates it’s a charity event in aid of The Prince’s Trust and that just helps to pull people together and work for a common cause. Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain like it did last year!".
