Centrix welcomes Britain’s
best singer-songwriter
to Winchfield Lodge

Winchfield Lodge, home to Centrix for the past 6 years, has had the pleasure of welcoming Ian McNabb, Britain’s best singer-songwriter (according to those in the know – including Ian himself and our very own Richard Burbage) to the building for an evening of entertainment, merriment and inebriation.

Ian McNabb (formerly the lead singer of seminal Liverpool band The Icicle Works and Mercury Music Prize finalist in 1995 for his work with Neil Young's Crazy Horse) posted a notice on his MySpace page in late 2006 offering to play at a select number of small venues in 2007 as part of a MySpace Tour. Richard Burbage, widely regarded amongst Centrix staff as the most knowledgeable man in music with his ear to the ground, duly contacted Ian and suggested he came and played at Winchfield Lodge for the benefit of staff and friends alike. The rest, as they say, is history.

A local off-licence (The Naked Grape in Alresford) provided the beverages (most of which were based on alcohol including several bottles of Magners for Rachel Wasylciw, crates of Peroni, cases of red and white wine and one can of diet Coke) in return for money (sadly they weren't able to see the charitable side to the event!), The Lamb in Hartley Wintney provided the take-away pizzas and Stable Sound (a local recording studio and equipment hire business) provided the lighting and staging for the gig.

Richard Burbage, Sales & Marketing Director for Centrix had this to say after the event: "I'm very, very drunk". However, by the Monday morning he'd sobered up enough to comment, "Ian McNabb put on a great performance and clearly showed why he's Britain's best singer-songwriter. I think it's fair to say everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves and, having got to bed at 3am on the Saturday morning I'm starting to recover slowly".

Ian McNabb, Britain's best singer-songwriter, commented during the event "This is f***ing brilliant. Nobody has ever sung along to 'German Soldiers Helmet Circa 1943' before so I'm chuffed you all know the song". On his MySpace page he also commented "Big shout out to all the fine folk I played to on the MySpace tour last weekend. I'm seriously thinking about giving up the usual circuit as these kind of gigs are far more rewarding. Standing in the middle of a room with 30 people singing my music in a 360 degree sweep is overwhelming - thanks guys".

Peter Fisher, General Manager of Centrix Connect, who failed to attend the event due to "musical differences" had this to say: "I thought David Gray and James Blunt were Britain's best singer-songwriter?". Peter continues to make a swift recovery and should be out of hospital in the coming weeks!
