Gain the competitive advantage with MultiVantage®

July 15th 2002, Avaya officially launched the latest Release 11 software for their Definity communications platform. As part of the release, and to reflect the importance Avaya are putting on this major release of software, there are a numberof special promotions on offer to existing Definity users to upgrade. Richard Burbage, Sales & Marketing Director for Centrix explains further…

"MultiVantage is Avaya's new name for what you and I have traditionally referred to as 'Definity'. The best way to think of it is that the name Definity refers more to the hardware (cabinets, cards, handsets etc.) and MultiVantage is the software (Coverage Paths, Coverage Answer Groups, Auto Route Selection, Attendant Vectoring etc). Over the coming months there are a number of new Avaya releases (such as the S8700, S8300 and S8100) which are new server-based products running Linux as an operating system and using MultiVantage for the telephony software. Thankfully, customers with Definity have an upgrade path in terms of the software by simply taking advantage of the new Avaya MultiVantage Upgrade Plus program."

If you're wondering what the advantages are in upgrading to MultiVantage, Richard has produced this summary below.

What's included in the Avaya MultiVantage upgrade?
The new MultiVantage software offers additional telephony features such as missed calls on your handset (this will show you the CLI, date and time of calls not answered on your phone - like you get on a mobile), Meet Me 6-party conference, External call-log on a digital handset (allowing you to scroll through the numbers dialled from your phone) and Auto-transfer on hang-up. In addition the new MV software will support a number of new telephones being introduced including the new 2420 handset, the 4620 handset, the 4602 IP hardphone and the new Avaya Softconsole for reception.

The migration to the new MV Processor will allow you to take advantage of new converged voice and data features in the future such as IP telephony and voice-over-IP.

The VAL (Voice Announcements over LAN) Board and Manager are for customers who wish to provide voice announcements on hold or automated attendant. The new VAL board allows you to record CD-quality voice announcements and the VAL Manager allows you to administer the announcements over your LAN (for example a promotional message on hold that might be provided to you by email in MP3 format or WAV attachment could be uploaded on to the VAL board over the LAN).

The C-LAN Board will allow your Definity and MultiVantage software to 'sit' on your LAN for easier and faster administration. In addition a major new enhancement will be the ability for us the maintainer or Avaya to upload Firmware downloads from the Web or remotely. The ASA (Avaya Site Administration) software is a new graphical system management tool that offers Wizards for moves, adds and changes and is a vastly superior way of programming the Definity than the traditional dial-up through the Tracker modem.

To encourage customers to consider using IP telephony, Avaya will be including 5 free IP softphone/station licences. It is important to note that you will still require the IP gateway device known as the IP Solutions card, which is an additional cost. However, these free IP licenses represent a saving of approximately £1,000 + vat when you want to consider installing the IP Solutions card.
