Avaya to launch release 9 software for Definity in the UK

Avaya have confirmed that release 9 software for the Definity platform will be introduced to the UK in late March, early April. Release 9, which has recently been made available in the US, introduces a whole host of IP routing capabilities to the Definity platform and is sure to become the prerequisite for all Definity customers wanting to take advantage of IP telephony.

Richard Burbage, Sales and Marketing Director of Centrix offers a brief insight into the capabilities of release 9. "This is by far the most important release of software for the Definity since version 6 was introduced in 1998 which offered a new RISC processor and the ability to use the new 6400 range of digital handsets. Release 9, however, offers even more functionality and the chance to use the new range of 4600 IP handsets."

"A lot of UK telephony users are confused by what IP telephony will offer their organisation however this release of software is going to bring home to all existing Definity users exactly what the benefits are. An example is a home-worker or employee that often logs on to the LAN at various offices; now, if they load up the Definity IP soft phone onto their laptop, wherever they log on in the world the Definity will find them and route all their calls to them seamlessly over IP. This is just one example of many that truly spell the convergence of voice and data on the Definity platform and is set to become a minimum level of software for all Definity users worldwide."
