London Symphony Orchestra add another String to their Bow
The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) recently opened a new Music Education Centre at St Luke’s Church in the City of London and enlisted the help of Centrix to set up their voice and data requirements.
St Luke’s is a Grade 1 listed Hawksmoor church which had lain derelict for 40 years but has been restored in a visionary new development to establish a home for the LSO’s comprehensive and pioneering education programme, LSO Discovery, and to house LSO rehearsals and recordings. The building combines careful external restoration with a contemporary interior designed to meet the needs of the 21st century orchestra.
State-of-the-art communication systems, audio and video technology will make multi-site workshops, video conferencing and satellite broadcasting possible.
Ian Calder, Commercial Director for Centrix explains. “The London Symphony Orchestra approached us and asked for our advice and input on the requirements they had for their new Music Education Centre at St. Luke’s.
It was clear from the outset that whilst the requirement was small in terms of the number of voice extensions, they would require a fully-featured voice and data solution in order to roll out the new services they want to offer over the coming years.
Our recommendation included the installation of an Avaya IP Office system which would allow them to make use of voice-over-IP technology and to link with their Avaya INDeX system they already have in the Barbican. Carrying out the installation in a Grade I listed church had it’s own problems but nothing that we couldn’t work around with a little bit of lateral thinking. In fact it was music to my ears when our engineers calls to confirm the installation at the London Symphony Orchestra had gone to plan!”
